Welcome to the NCSG website

It is estimated that 1 in 133 individuals in the U.S. have celiac disease. Many fellow celiacs are members of support groups all across the country sponsored by the Celiac Sprue Association (CSA). Support groups meet regularly to discuss issues related to celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis.

The Northland Celiac Support Group (NCSG) is a support and educational group for adults and children with Celiac Disease and/or Dermatitis Herpetiformis. NCSG is Chapter One of the Celiac Sprue Association; our medical advisor is Dr. Roger Gebhard, gastroenterologist at the Veterans Administration Medical Center and a professor of medicine at the University of Minnesota.

The purpose of this organization is to provide support, information, and assistance to persons in Minnesota with gluten intolerance disease, including Celiac Disease and Dermatitis Herpetiformis, through programs of education, awareness, and advocacy.

NCSG sponsors three information meetings in February, April/May, and September/October. NCSG also hosts a holiday potluck or dining event the first Saturday in December, as well as a Summer Potluck Picnic get-together. The general meetings feature a local or national speaker or event that addresses current issues and topics related to celiac disease, including celiac authors, researchers, clinicians and medical advisers. Our members are also a great resource at every meeting as we share our experiences in cooking, eating out, and shopping. At the meetings, members are asked to contribute a gluten-free snack to share. Beverages are provided.

The Northland Celiac Support Group is a non-profit organization primarily funded by it’s annual membership dues. As a benefit of your membership, you will receive the NCSG Newsletter four to five times per year, as well as receiving email alert messages. The newsletter and email alert message highlight current research and news regarding celiac disease, and includes recipes, product and restaurant reviews, upcoming events, and local area support group meeting information. NCSG is also involved with the local “Making Tracks for Celiacs Annual 3k Walk/Run and Minnesota State Fair events.

The Northland Celiac Support Group recommends that its members also join a local support group that meet on a monthly basis. Several regional celiac support groups meet more frequently throughout Minnesota and the Twin Cities area. Please check the link "Other Minnesota Support Groups" for meeting and contact information.
